2 Timothy 4:16-18 King James Version (KJV)
16 At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.
17 Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
2 Timothy 4:16-18 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
16 At my first defense, no one stood by me, but everyone deserted me. May it not be counted against them. 17 But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the proclamation might be fully made through me and all the Gentiles might hear. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil work and will bring me safely into His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever! Amen.

16 Paul is not blaming those who couldn’t come because the Lord was using them in other ways or those he went away but there would have been fellow believers that were with him and left, they didn’t want to face the results of sharing the gospel, which the world was about to pour out. When we serve the Lord we need to be willing to stand when there is blessings but also when doing right causes the world to bring us trials.
17 The Lord of course stayed with Paul and helped him though. Even though everyone else may leave us Jesus stays with us and even at times we need Him most He carries us on our walk with Him. Paul had a chance to share the gospel with people he wouldn’t have had to before. Paul praises God for the chance to proclaim His name that he had be given and that the Lord gave him the power to do so.
18 Paul knew God was going to deliver him this time. Paul didn’t believe that in time he would die for the faith because I think he knew in time he would but that time he knew wasn’t yet. We need to honor God with our entire lives.
