2 Timothy 2:15-18
KJV 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; 18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
Rotherham 15 Give diligence, thyself, approved, to present unto God,—a workman not to be put to shame, skillfully handling the word of truth. 16 But, the profane pratings, shun; for, unto more ungodliness, will they force themselves on; 17 And, their discourse, as a gangrene, will eat its way;—of whom are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 Men who, concerning the truth, have erred, affirming, a resurrection, already, to have taken place, and are overthrowing the faith, of some.
These are my thoughts, please share yours.
15 We should strive to be the best worker for Christ that He can make us be. We are to teach the word boldly because we should be proud to proclaim what He has done and be happy to give glory to God.
16 Often times those who are ungodly will debate unessential things to change the subject but we are to keep our focus on the Lord and at the cross this isn’t saying that we cant answer their questions but is saying don’t let their questions keep up from talking about Jesus being the answer.
17 Paul gives warning, often the Spirit will let us be warned somehow ahead of time so we can take action against it. We need to spread the truth not untruths the gospel first. Teaching false truths or truths do that don’t lead to the cross will do damage.
18 People out there are trying to hurt the church faith by letting worldly lies into the church so that the church best benefits them rather then them believing the truth and best benefiting Jesus.
